HOW MUCH IMPORTANT COULD BE LITERATURE ON LEARNING-TEACHING PROCESS.
It is possible to use literature to teach English?
What activities would you like to do in your future as a teacher? Why? What
population? What materials?
Literature is one of the most important aspects when
teaching English, it allows students and teachers have a preconception about
tales, plays, stories and poems, especially those that are considered to have
value as art and not just entertainment, those that allow us to develop as much
as possible the target language during the teaching–learning process. As a
future teacher, I would like to implement several activities with my students,
but especially “Drama” because it
allows students to acquire linguistic and non-linguistic competences not only
for their teaching-learning process but also for their future professional
field.
Drama is a prose or verse composition that is intended
for representation by actors impersonating the characters and performing the
dialogue and action favoring learners’ grammar and pronunciation. It should not
be regarded as merely a fun activity or role play for filling the last ten
minutes of a class, but it should be regarded as a language learning approach
itself. The use of “Drama” is unusual
at school or at the universities, not all teachers feel ease with employing it
in the classroom because of the time and space, besides, because teachers do
not feel sure by using the methods they
have not been trained before for the student’s language acquisition or
improvement.
Similarly “Drama”
allows to find a systematic approach to education where students use their
creativity at the same time that they linguistic competences such as; lexicon,
grammar, phonetics, semantics, as well as voice management, body language and
non-linguistic skills that help them to increase the development of the oral
competence when performing, as well as writing skill when creating the script.
