CHRISTOPHER
MARLOWE
I was born on February 26th, 1564
the same day I was baptized in Canterbury, England. I was born three months
before my partner Shakespeare. My mother was the daughter of a former priest
and my father was a shoemaker. At the age of sixteen I went to King's School
where I was awarded a scholarship that enabled me to study at Corpus Christi College,
Cambridge, from late 1580 until 1587. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in
1584, but in 1587 the university hesitated in granting me my master's degree,
perhaps arising from my frequent absences, or speculation that I had converted
to Roman Catholicism and would soon attend college elsewhere. However, received
it in 1587.
I started my career as a playwright, poet and
actor at the Admiral’s company in London, I put some of my time to perform some
scenes of theater where I had success; I really enjoyed writing and playing
different scenes. I also became a secret agent working for Sir Francis
Willingham’s intelligence service; I was arrested in several opportunities because
of the discussions with people and murders.
I became famous because of my first play Tamburlaine the Great in blank-verse, a tragic play
which is divided into two parts, which was the first play to be performed on
the regular stage in London. It is considered the beginning of the mature phase
of the Elizabethan theater; I wrote others famous tragedies such as; Dr. Faustus, The Rich Jew of Malta, and
Edward II very popular in London and all around the world. I death on 30th
May 1593, in London, UK.
